Community engagement should be about empowering communities towards self-determination and self-repair as we have seen the failings of ‘inclusion’ as a sole strategy to bring about equity for people of Afrikan and other global south heritages. This group therefore focuses on developing regular community engagement opportunities so that CoRE’s accountability is maintained, and it is being checked as a substantively representational bridge between power bases, influencers and decision makers and our communities. Moreover, this group embraces the resolutions of the Atonement and Reparations Motions and to work in collaboration with the Afrikan Connexions Consortium to support the development of the Bristol Pempamsie Reparations Plan (B-PReP).
The city centre and our high streets are a vital part of what makes Bristol what it is and £4.725 million of funding has been secured to help the city centre and high streets recover from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Filling vacant premises, diversifying what’s on offer, improving their appearance, greening spaces and culture and event activities will all help increase the number of people visiting and using these places.
